The fincas are located in the idyllic Barranco del Cura, surrounded by picturesque rock formations and are wonderfully secluded. You can enjoy the silence and the chirping of the crickets, while staying just one kilometer from the nearest supermarket and beach. The fincas are equipped with everything you need during your holidays, like internet access (all four fincas have wifi), a barbecue on the terrace, satellite TV, a washing machine, a microwave, either an oven with 4-burner ceramic hobs or a gas stove (depending on your accommodation), a coffee machine, a toaster and a kettle. Upon request a baby cot and a high chair are also available. There is plenty of storage space in the cupboards and drawers as well as a great variety books to read. If anything is amiss, just ask me, your kind host Mona, and you shall be helped ... If you are interested in typical Spanish coffee, I would be happy to explain how to use the “cafetera”, which is part of the kitchen`s complement.
All of the fincas have parking spaces available in their immediate vecinity, as the fincas are built arround them.
Since the mind and the soul shouldn`t miss out either, there are a lot of things to do in our gorge. Both of us, my neighbour Walter and I, would like to enable you to make something of your own creation. Disconnect and enjoy your stay in Paradise. Some of the many activities we offer in our “El Paraiso” are bow building and intuitive / meditative archery, creative design and pyrography, language courses and foot reflexology.
If you feel like exploring the barranco on foot, you may discover something new behind every rock. Should you be enjoying your holidays with your four-legged friend (only if previously agreed upon) please know that you can roam the entire area without having to worry about traffic. Just have a walk in the barranco, and you will be surprised by the variety of rock formations, flora and fauna. After walking for about 20 minutes you will find a small cave on the left hand side and inside it a nicely designed book which hikers are welcome to sign. Just disconnect and enjoy the silence ...
Although my fincas appear to be quite distant it is only a 5 min. drive to the nearest small shopping center at Playa del Cura and the beach. The nearby little town Puerto Rico (5 km) offers many shops and restaurants of all kinds; try the Canarian cuisine, for example at the "Balcón Canario" restaurant. You will find a lot of different leisure activities such as tennis, mini golf courses, a playground (Angry Birds activity park), several gyms and a crossfit box.
In Anfi Tauro there are both a 9 hole and an 18 hole golf course at about 4 km distance, which are open throughout the entire year and welcome players of all levels.
At the beach of Puerto Rico you can go jet skiing or rent a pedal boat, go fishing and deep sea fishing, as well as take surf, diving and sailing lessons and much more.
Close by is the Amadores Beach with white sand, palm trees and turquoise water.
If you are ready to go a little bit further still (ca. 20 km) you can enjoy the nightlife of Playa del Inglés, which is the exact opposite of Barranco del Cura, you’ll see... I would highly recommend to hire a car although it is not absolutely necessary. I’d be happy to assist you in this matter (please refer to the info section).
How about some sightseeing or doing excursions in Gran Canaria? Since I’ve lived in “my paradise” for years, I believe I can help you find the most interesting sights and places for you.
The folklore events, held on Sundays in the island‘s capital Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, are an absolute highlight.
Towards the centre of the island, you can take a look at cave houses in Guayadeque where its dwellers still live the way the Aborigines did before the conquest. The only thing that gives away their modernisation is the antenna.
The Dunes of Maspalomas are very popular for taking long walks in the sand and Playa del Inglés for enjoying a very busy and varied nightlife.
By the way: It is said the South of Gran Canaria enjoys the best climate in the world, especially for rheumatics and asthmatics !!!
... on the day of your departure you may return your key by placing it in the little bird house near the large gate at the entrance to the barranco.
Important: Check-in is at 03:00 pm and check-out 11:00 am. These are the standard check-in and check-out times. If the circumstances allow it you may possibly check in earlier and/or check out later.
... and finally, a few thoughts of my own about your stay here:
The Gate to Tranquility - Retreat
"A 'retreat' is an inner withdrawal from the noisy, eternally thinking mind that pressures us on a daily basis to turn ourselves into time slaves.”
This has always been kind of a slogan of my father professor Paul-Heinz Wohlers, who died many years ago. He was something of a good spirit here at the Barranco. If it weren‘t for him, these nice country houses in the mountains would never have been created, I wouldn‘t be living here and YOU would not be able to enjoy the most beautiful time of the year, your idyllic and secluded holidays.
